Importing machines to Ethiopia is straightforward. We are cooperating with a local freight forwarder that ships the machines by plane to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, which is only two hours from our facility. We will pick them up at the airport and handle the imports with a local partner, which has imported thousands of machines to Ethiopia without any issues. The import duty is only 7% with no import VAT.

We own some containers at a 120 MW co-location facility. We have engaged an operating company with 7 years of experience running 5 facilities with several hundreds of megawatts of capacity

There is a Bitmain-certified repair center at the facility. Bitmain owns 40 MW of containers at the facility, so they naturally will have a repair center there. The repair center provides quick repairs at prices shown in the contract.

Well, we are talking about Africa here. So there is some political risk. However, Ethiopia is one of the most stable and well-developed countries in Africa and the political risk is significantly lower than in most countries on the continent. In addition, while the political risk is higher in Ethiopia than in the US, we would argue that the overall risk of mining in Ethiopia is actually lower due to the low hosting fee. Miners hosting in the US at $0.07/kWh or higher run a massive risk of not getting through the halving. By mining in Ethiopia at $0.059/kWh, you don’t run this risk. So to sum up, the political risk is higher, but the financial risk is lower.

The site is located behind two layers of barbed-wire fences. The first fence is around the substation area, and the second is around the site. Also, we have armed guards patrolling the area.
